Before we start discussing searching online, how about we talk a little about offline searching. I talk to people every day that work at home and many of them approached their boss initially. They went to their boss with a professional and well
thought out proposal. Some started working at home only one day a week – some two days a week. But eventually transitioned to working at home full time. If you currently have a job that you truly think you could do from home, then sit down and start writing out your proposal. The pros and the cons of working at home. Do you have the right equipment? Do you have a designated work area? Do you have a quiet work place? There are many things to think about
Sure you can save money by not paying for gas, or work clothes or daycare……BUT – can you do your job at home? And what benefits are in it for your boss? Trying to call and confirm appointments for your boss with screaming kids in the background is NOT professional. Staying up late and not starting your job until 10:00 or 11:00 is NOT professional. You need to be organized and take it very seriously or you could be out of a job altogether.
Even if you don’t have a job that could perhaps transition to an online job or home job you might think about your town or city. Could you offer a service to any local businesses? Is there something you could do for them on a part time basis? Phone work? Data entry? Bookkeeping? You might print out some flyers or little “About Me” pamphlets showcasing what you offer. It could lead to a few jobs that allow you to work from home. Or even a permanent full time job.
